Voter Engagement

Voter Engagement

We cannot conceive a path to our long-term goals without ensuring that our communities are full participants in our democracy. Community Change with our partners is building a large-scale operation that takes into account the year-round ways in which democracy can be activated from the streets to the ballot box. It is not enough to change the demographic makeup of our electorate — it has to be accompanied by a year-round pipeline of engagement with public life. Housed within the appropriate legal entities, our program increases civic participation, deepens political education, and builds permanent infrastructure for year-round engagement.

In 2024 our country faces strong headwinds, including sustained attacks on democratic institutions, pervasive misinformation, coordinated voter suppression efforts, divisive international wars, growing apathy and disbelief that government can be a force for good, the as-yet-unknown impact of AI on voting, and more. We are meeting this challenge with an approach that is focused not just on 2024 but on the long game: building a stronger democracy by bringing more people into civic life, helping voters navigate complex voting systems, and strengthening the field with essential tools and technical assistance.

At its heart, our approach is about rebuilding our democracy. Year over year, our relational organizing, issue work, and support to the field remain activated to advance bold, popular campaigns and policies that improve our communities and bring more people into civic engagement — especially hard-to-find and hard-to-reach Black, Latino, Native, AAPI, immigrant, women, and young voters. In the face of so much uncertainty and opposition, we are doubling down on what we know works: the power of organizing and the strength of relationships, both with friends and family as well as with organizations like Community Change and our partners — institutions that break through the noise, connect experiences to issues, and bring people into civic life.

Our sister organization, Community Change Action, houses the 501(c)4 side of this work. Community Change Action engages millions of voters to make their voices heard at the ballot box. In 2024, Community Change Action and our grassroots partners and leaders will attempt to reach 15 million voters and have 2+ million conversations in six prioritized states that align with key U.S. House and Senate races and the path to winning the presidency.
