Marvin Randolph

In November of 2005, Marvin Randolph joined the staff at the Center for Community Change as Director of the Community Voting Project.  In 2008 Marvin assumed a new role, leading the Center's Organizing Unit as the Director of Organizing and Politics.  There he supervises the team that directs the work of the Center's national campaign, political and policy shop, special initiatives division, five regions, and five issue teams including Immigration, Health Care, Low Wage Work, Education and Housing Trust Fund.

No stranger to work at the Center, Marvin served as a National Policy Associate in 1995, only to return in 2004 as a consultant through his firm Urbanomics Consulting Group, helping launch the Center's 2004 Community Voting Project (CVP).  Marvin has also been a Partner with Urbanomics for over five years, overseeing Washington, D.C. operations of the company while directing legislative, political and grassroots strategies for client engagements.  In that role, he served as a lead trainer for the 2004 CVP program, providing training and technical assistance for programs at the Center, as well as for over 35 other national and local organizations across the country.

Marvin wears many hats — trainer, coach, activist and advocate — to strengthen the capacity of public advocacy organizations to advance social change.  A 23-year veteran of political campaigns and nationally recognized expert in voter contact strategy, Marvin brings to the Center a unique set of campaign skills.  As a senior campaign strategist for over a decade and having successfully directed issue campaigns across the country, he has earned a reputation for winning tough initiatives — electoral, referendum and issue.  He has served in a variety of political, labor and lobbying roles, which account for his embodiment of a distinct combination of campaign management skills.

Marvin has served on the staff of the Democratic National Committee, Service Employees International Union (SEIU), directed primary operations in 3 states for Clinton/Gore, served as the Founding Executive Director of Virginia Citizen Action, and as Executive Director of Project Vote '94.  His reputation for turning around ailing campaigns and rapid response has won him numerous accolades including recognition by American Federation of Labor Council of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) President Sweeney for his efforts in successfully directing the field operation of the campaign to defeat Proposition 226, the anti-labor initiative in Los Angeles.

These experiences, combined with his work in over 17 states, uniquely qualified Marvin for his previous role as Voter Contact Director for the NAACP National Voter Fund – credited with the largest historic increase in African-American voter turnout. There he designed voter contact strategy and oversaw development of national voter registration and grants programs. Just prior to joining the NAACP National Voter Fund, he served as Senior Account Executive for a direct-mail firm. There he managed accounts for a range of clients from Presidential to Municipal, prior to which he served as Western Regional Political Director for the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) for three years.

A native of Richmond, Virginia, he is a graduate of Old Dominion University and resides in Washington, DC.
