Washington-The U.S. Labor Department unemployment report released today shows 663,000 jobs were loss in the month of March, lifting the unemployment rate to 8.5%.  The Campaign for Community Values released the following statement:

“These disappointing numbers are more proof we must re-double our efforts to create an economy that works for us all,” said Gabe Gonzalez, director of the Campaign for Community Values   “As unemployment rises, low-income and minority communities are being hit particularly hard.  We need solutions that help all of us to move forward.

“It’s particularly disappointing that in the shadow of these alarming numbers no Republican member crossed the aisle in a bi-partisan way to vote for President Obama’s blueprint to rebuild and renew America.

“Bold action that makes significant investments in health care, expands job opportunities with fair wages and creates an immigration system that recognizes the contributions of immigrants are needed now more than ever.  It’s time partisan politics is pushed aside for the good of the nation and that we realize the promise of America through equal sacrifice, responsibility and determination.”
