TELEPHONIC PRESS BRIEFING
SCHEDULED FOR Wed, June 25, 2008 -- 10:30am EST
Contact press contacts for call-in number.
WHO: Grassroots Community Organizations Engaged in Voter Work in Key States
WHY: Primary results and polls indicate that this election is about change, and the two major candidates are flooding the airwaves with promises of change. What has bubbled up within the electorate and is driving record turnout since January is being defined by a vast grassroots movement as “community values”—the belief that we need policies that bring us together and reject the divisive politics of the past. These community values voters have emerged as a key voter block this election.
The press briefing call sets the stage for local mobilization efforts featuring first hand accounts from grassroots leaders who have tapped into this energy for change and are organizing voters in key states and districts this fall—including Ohio, Virginia, Washington, Nevada and Maine.
Long after the election, these grassroots organizations will continue working within communities to hold the new administration accountable and win significant policy victories, while building alliances that cross racial and ethnic lines and creating lasting support for voter work in communities often left out of the political process. The press briefing call will kick off a series of events to identify and mobilize community values voters nationwide.
