WHAT: An informative discussion of community organizers’ plans to create power in low income and minority communities by building on recent successes of registering voters and turning them out to vote.
WHY: Registering thousands of new voters and getting them to the polls is only a prelude to our long-term strategy for building power in poor and minority communities. Getting policies enacted that reflect our country’s Community Values of equality, community and fairness will only happen by keeping our new voters engaged in the democratic process.
Join us on Wednesday, October 22 at 11 a.m. EST for a telephonic press briefing as community organizers discuss our strategy to turn out the vote and to keep those voters engaged beyond the election.
“Our work is not primarily about November 4th, but what happens after that,” said Gabe Gonzalez, national director for the Campaign for Community Values. “Voting is exceedingly important, but it should only be the introduction to civic engagement. There’s much work to be done after the elections if we are to create a more just, more equitable America that works for everyone.”

The Campaign for Community Values is a national coalition of over 300 grassroots community organizations dedicated to lifting up the voices of low-income people and communities of color to move the national conversation toward making America finally work for everyone.
