President Obama’s Bold Federal Budget Moves Nation Toward Community Values

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Statement by the Center for Community Change

Friday, Feb 27, 2009
Washington-Today, the Center for Community Change praised President Obama's  2010 budget outline as a bold step toward moving America away from the failed values of George Bush and toward a new era of shared responsibility and shared sacrifice.

“Our communities have born the brunt of divisive and backward-looking policies for decades and organizers have been on the front lines of a movement to restore the core of our nation’s true value,” said Deepak Bhargava, executive director. “Our political leaders showed signs of joining our struggle of restoration with a budget proposal that will fundamentally change the ‘business as usual’ model in Washington. The President’s budget is a bold breath of fresh air for working families who have been put on the back burner for far too long in the interest of excessive private gain.

“This is the first President to put health care reform in the budget. It’s a historic and important first step to achieving a future that provides everyone access to affordable, high quality health care.  The President’s budget is also a recognition that we do not need to move forward issue-by-issue in a piecemeal fashion; it’s a move toward expanding job opportunities with fair wages.  We are committed to realizing the promise of America by making sure the voices of America’s diverse communities are continually heard throughout this process.”
