Job Loss Worries: Swift Action Needed to Pass Obama’s Budget
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Statement by the Center for Community Change
Monday, Mar 16, 2009Washington - A new national poll shows Americans fears in losing their jobs is surging. Unemployment is now the number one concern of Americans. The Center for Community Change, a national nonprofit that builds the field of community organizing with local grassroots groups nationwide, calls for Congress quickly to pass Obama’s transformative budget. We must stop short changing America’s communities.
“President Obama’s budget would fundamentally change the priorities of our country,” said Deepak Bhargava, executive director of the Center for Community Change. “Four months after America voted to rebuild and renew our nation, obstructionists are intent on maintaining the status quo by tearing down this blueprint for a new America. We need an economy that works for all of us. As the fear of unemployment continues to rise we must remember some communities have been hit particularly hard by this economic crisis. Insurance premiums have increased four times faster than wages and the failed trickle down economics of the past eight years have only exacerbated the problem.
“It’s time we seek solutions. Solutions, like the President’s budget proposal, can help all of us move forward together. We are committed to realizing the promise of America in which everyone is included.”
