Washington- Today, the chairmen of the House Ways and Means, Energy and Commerce and Education and Labor Committees released their draft of a health care reform bill. Deepak Bhargava, executive director of the Center for Community Change released the following statement:
“Large majorities of Americans support a public health
insurance option. Today, the People’s House answered their call and put forward
real reform that will give all of us a choice between public and private
insurance. Only when we have a choice,
will cost be controlled, quality be increased and universal coverage achieved.
Private insurers will have no incentive to change without
competition.
“We commend the House of Representatives and call on the
U.S. Senate to follow suit.”
