Washington – In response to President Obama’s first State of the Union Address, Gabe Gonzalez, advisor to Reform Immigration FOR America campaign, the nation’s largest pro-reform effort, and Fair Immigration Reform Movement, a coalition of hundreds of grassroots organizations, made the following statement:

“The President tonight rightly focused much of his speech on the economy and his vision for getting the country back to work.

“His message will surely resonate with Americans everywhere who are anxious about rising unemployment, foreclosures and a shrinking economy. The President was also right in saying that immigration reform is a vital component of our economic recovery. Studies have shown that comprehensive immigration reform will add $1.5 trillion to the U.S. economy, drive up wages for all workers and support nearly a million jobs.

“The country is ready for reform that holds up our values and fulfills the dream of one nation by creating a path to citizenship, honoring families, protecting American workers and preserving the American system of justice.

“Mr. President, please don’t wait on Congress to move on immigration reform. Don’t let our communities suffer another year under the crushing weight of our broken immigration system. We’ll be with you every step of the way expressing our support on the street, on the Internet and on the phone. Together, we can get this done, but we need you to lead.”

Gabe Gonzalez is available for commentary on the President’s State of the Union address.  To book Gabe as a guest on your show or for interviews, contact Mary Moreno at (956) 655-6389.
