Generation Change places students with nonprofits

Generation Change

Several Triangle-area college students were selected to work in internships with Generation Change, a national leadership training program.

The program includes a six-day training camp where interns learn the basics of community organizing and then are placed with a grass-roots nonprofit for a 10-week internship.

The interns and the nonprofits they are working with include:

Serena Behia of Chapel Hill with the Durham Congregations, Associations and Neighborhoods of Durham.

Veronica M. Lett with Southerners On New Ground of Durham. Lett is completing a bachelor's degree in African-American Studies at UNC-Chapel Hill.

Angaza Mayo-Laughinghouse, a Raleigh native, with the N.C. Justice Center in Raleigh. Mayo-Laughinghouse is majoring in sociology at UNC-Greensboro.

Wisdom Pharoah of Durham with the Durham Congregations, Associations, and Neighborhoods of Durham. She is a member of Durham C.A.N.'s Environmental Team and is part of the Durham Family Initiative, which provides classes to help reduce child abuse and neglect.

Poorav Rohatgi with the Durham Congregations, Associations, and Neighborhoods of Durham. Rohatgi is a rising junior at Duke University, where he is majoring in political science/theory.

Deven D. Anderson, serving as a fellow with Blueprint North Carolina in Raleigh. Anderson is a 2008 graduate of South Carolina State University, where he received his bachelor's degree in professional English.
