Position Description:
President Obama, Congressional leaders and thousands of organizations of every size and stripe across the country are preparing to pass immigration reform legislation in 2013. Center for Community Change (CCC) is working with immigrants rights, community-based, labor, faith and many progressive allies to build a coast-to-coast field operation that will win this cross-movement victory.
CCC is preparing to hire multiple organizers to get this done:
- Immigrant Justice Field Organizers will be deployed to specific states and metropolitan areas to work with key stakeholders to build support for immigration reform. Field Organizers must build relationships with institutions, build lists of grassroots and “grasstops” supporters, and organize press events, rallies and meetings to educate policy-makers about immigrants and immigration reform.
- Immigrant Justice Regional Field Directors will manage multiple states in the national field operation, and will manage the Field Organizers. Regional Field Directors must build and maintain relationships with key immigrants rights, labor, community-based and faith organizations. During the largest and most important public actions, Regional Field Directors must spend intensive time on-site in their assigned state(s) to ensure high-quality work.
Qualifications for both Field Organizers and Regional Field Directors:
- Proven ability to work in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment moving multiple streams of work.
- Excellent interpersonal skills: ability to build relationships and make specified asks of grassroots community leaders
- Ability to organize public actions, such as press conferences, rallies, meetings with public officials, etc.
- Familiarity with grassroots advocacy, at either the federal or state level, including experience with national campaigns to secure policy change.
- Familiarity with immigration reform issues in the United States, including federal comprehensive immigration reform, the DREAM Act, DHS enforcement policies, and state and local immigration initiatives is preferred.
- Familiarity with online technology (email/sms/mobile tools) and electoral tools (VAN, Catalist) for use in field campaigns.
- Capacity and willingness to travel frequently.
- Ability to work effectively with people of different cultures.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to speak Spanish is preferred.
Additional Qualifications for Regional Field Directors:
- Experience in supervising one or more organizers
- Experience working at a high level in strategic partnerships with other organizations such as labor, community or faith-based groups
- Experience with working with other elements of a campaign (e.g., communications, online, policy) to coordinate and communicate information to other staff in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to coordinate with other field staff
