What We Do

Celebrate Organizing!

We believe that community organizing is a key strategy for social change and full civic participation.  Therefore, the need to invest in building new leadership and supporting the leadership of those currently doing the hard work is critical at this moment of change.  This year's success proves that there is an incredible appetite for a program that is dedicated to achieving this purpose, to recruit and train new community organizers, particularly people of color, from low-income communities, and immigrants.

In its second year, Generation Change successfully finished its internship program, launched a new Fellowship Program and an Advanced Leadership Training Program.

Internship Program

In 2008, GenChange received over 1,000 applications for the internship program, a five fold increase of applications from the previous year.

Fellowship Program

This past summer, in partnership with the Community Voting Project, Generation Change launched its first ever six month Fellowship program.  21 fellows embarked on their organizing careers by carrying out civic engagement work at local community-based organizations in 16 states and Washington, D.C. for six months.  The fellows recently completed their second training in Washington, D.C. and have returned to their host organizations to apply their learning.  Thus far, the fellows have contributed to the registration of over 120,000 voters, mostly immigrant, people of color from low income communities.   Learn more. >>

Generation Change Advanced Leadership Training

Generation Change launched its Advanced Leadership Training, a program that supports current organizers in the field.  Through the Advanced Leadership Training, we organized two successful weeklong Community Organizing trainings, training approximately 70 organizers.  We are currently looking into innovative ways to support organizing as a career.
