Young Immigrants Share Their Stories

Marie's Story
- Nineteen-year-old Marie Gonzalez emigrated from Costa Rica with her parents when she was only five. They settled in Misouri, worked hard, paid taxes, and became active members of their community. Tragically, Marie's parents were deported in July of 2005.

William's Story
- William is an undocumented college student studying industrial organizational psychology. He is working to pass the DREAM act so that other students like him can acheive their potential.

- Byron, a young immigrant, works on the DREAM act so that young people will be measured by their achievements and ability, not their immigration status.

Connie's Story
- Connie Yoon, an undocumented teenager in the United States with a 4.0 grade point average, works 12 hours a day as a waitress because she does not qualify for financial aid or loans for college.

- Deysi, an undocumented teenager, cannot continue her education because of her immigration status.

- Yunuen, an undocumented student, cannot apply for education grants, loans, or work despite his outstanding academic record.

- Jimmy, and active member of the local community and student at a four-year college, must pay out-of-state tuition rates in his own state and is barred from having a drivers license because of his immigration status.

- Mario, an honors student in high school, faces deportation back to Guatemala.

- Gabby, a community college student, cannot drive, open a bank account, get an identification card or work at certain jobs because of her immigration status.
