Next Step Toward Winning Immigration Reform This Year: President’s Meeting with Members of Congress
WASHINGTON – Less then two weeks after the impressive launch of the Reform Immigration FOR America campaign, the movement toward realizing just and humane immigration reform takes another giant step when President Obama meets with various members of Congress to discuss immigration reform on June 17.
“The American public is ready for reform,” said Deepak Bhargava, executive director of the Center for Community Change. “Now Congress has to show they, too, are ready to tackle one of the nation’s most pressing issues.”
The Reform Immigration FOR America campaign is sponsored by a diverse coalition of advocates and organizations from faith, labor, law enforcement, business and immigrant communities committed to winning the votes needed to enact a just and comprehensive immigration reform bill in this session of Congress. The campaign advocates for reform that offers a path to earned citizenship, protects workers, enhances our nation’s security, promotes immigrant integration and keeps families together.

Resistance to Public Health Insurance Plan and Contributions from Insurance Companies Seem to go Hand in Hand
Center for Community Change Executive Director Deepak
Bhargava points out in blog post published by The Huffington Post that one of
the most public figures against a public health insurance option has also been
on the receiving end of health insurance giants’ largesse.
“Americans don't trust private health insurance companies to
stay honest. Sen. Ron Wyden apparently does,” writes Bhargava. “Why? Is it
because Sen. Wyden has taken some $1.5 million in contributions from health and
insurance interests?”
