Our Events
We’re facing an uphill challenge. The culture of extreme individualism has infected every aspect of our society, and many of our own hearts and minds. But we know that the story of America and the story of our own lives is our greatest achievements have come from working together. But if we don’t tell the story of community values, over and over and over again in everything we do, the destructive forces of extreme individualism will only grow stronger. Our hope is to get the message out through Community Values Events. These events are coordinated opportunities to very visibly and deliberately lift up community values and define the communities, the nation and the world that we all want. It’s a monumental task and we can’t do it without you.
Our goal with the events is to not only raise up the message of community values but begin to point towards policies that lift up community values which we would want our elected leaders to acknowledge and champion in town halls, state legislatures and in Washington, D.C. We feel that Community Values Events are a good tactical tool for us to lay the groundwork that would eventually lead to concrete improvements for our communities. Our Campaign for Community Values goal is to hold 80 or more Community Values Events across the country during the spring and summer of 2008 in order to lift up the voices of low-income people and communities of color to help bend the national conversation toward community values.
