Thousands Across Heartland Expected at Unique Format Forum, Final Major Forum in Iowa Before Caucuses
For Immediate Release: Tuesday, October 23, 2007 (WASHINGTON, DC) Presidential candidates, Senator John Edwards and Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, have agreed to join thousands at the Heartland Presidential Forum: Community Values in Action in Des Moines, Iowa at HyVee Hall on December 1, 2007 at 1:30 pm. Nationally known media pioneer and Radio One founder and Chairwoman Catherine L. Hughes will moderate this historic event, which will likely to be the final major candidate forum in Iowa before the first caucus vote is cast. Candidates from both major parties are expected and will engage in a unique one-on-one dialogue with everyday people about the community values that are important to them and the kind of America they want to live in. “Six of the seven presidential candidates joined us in South Carolina in 2004 and we’re excited to bring this unique forum format back to the campaign schedule,” says Deepak Bhargava, executive director, Center for Community Change, one of the organizers of the forum. “Unlike the televised debates of late that offer more spin than substance, candidates can expect a real one on one dialogue with everyday people.” Seasoned journalist and well-known business and media pioneer, Cathy Hughes, will moderate the unscripted conversation between the presidential candidates and regular working people about critical social issues that affect us all. Five thousand people are expected and will surround the intimate stage setting, where a few dozen citizens will sit with a candidate. No candidate will interact with another candidate on stage; instead, they will respond directly to individual people who share their stories and question the candidates about how they will stand up for the common good. “Many people who are coming to this historic event are still undecided on their candidate and are likely caucus goers here in Iowa,” says Hugh Espey, executive director, Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement. “They are looking forward to a final opportunity to engage with these candidates in a real way. I suspect the candidates will be in awe of the level of energy in the room at such a unique event with everyday Iowans from across the state and our neighbors across the Heartland.” |
