(WASHINGTON, DC)   Presidential candidate, Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio) announced his participation in the unprecedented Heartland Presidential Forum: Community Values in Action in Des Moines, Iowa at HyVee Hall on December 1, 2007 at 1:30 pm, which is likely the largest gathering of caucus goers prior to the Iowa caucuses.

Congressman Kucinich joins Senators Barack Obama, John Edwards, Hillary Clinton and Chris Dodd at the forum. Designed to cut out the sound bite model of current presidential debates, the forum’s unique format will allow each candidate to engage in face to face conversations with real people about the community values and issues that hit at the heart of the country.

“We are glad to see candidates’ enthusiasm to be part of this historic event,” said Deepak Bhargava, executive director of the Center for Community Change, a co-sponsor to the event. “We want presidential hopefuls to prove they understand the fundamental principal that getting America back on track requires more than another laundry list of policy proposals.”

More than 5,000 Iowans and residents from the Heartland will lead off a march to the forum venue and will set the stage for the anticipated conversation. During the Heartland Presidential Forum, each candidate will have 20-30 minutes to hear personal stories from community members and address questions about issues important to everyday people.

“Here in Iowa, just like in the rest of the country, we are tired of political rhetoric. We want to see how candidates respond to real issues from real people who recognize we are all in this together,” said Hugh Espey, executive director of the Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement, one of the organizers of the forum.

The forum will be moderated by Radio One Founder and Chairwoman, Cathy Hughes. The Heartland Presidential Forum is the second presidential candidate event co-sponsored by Center for Community Change.  The Center along with grassroots partner groups held a similar dialogue in South Carolina in 2004.
