(WASHINGTON, DC)   Presidential candidate, Senator Christopher Dodd (D-CT) has agreed to join thousands at the Heartland Presidential Forum: Community Values in Action in Des Moines, Iowa at HyVee Hall on December 1, 2007 at 1:30 pm.   Senator Dodd joins Senators Edwards and Clinton at the forum in which candidates from both major parties are expected.  In what is likely the final major forum before the caucus, the candidates will engage in a unique one-on-one dialogue with everyday people about the community values that are important to them and the kind of America they want to live in.

“The momentum is building and we are excited by the steady turnout of candidates for what will surely be a historic event this campaign season,” says Deepak Bhargava, executive director, Center for Community Change, one of the organizers of the forum. “Unlike the televised debates of late that offer more spin than substance, candidates can expect a real one on one dialogue with everyday people.”

Seasoned journalist and Radio One Founder and Chairwoman, Cathy Hughes, will moderate the unscripted conversation between the presidential candidates and regular working people about critical social issues that affect us all.  Five thousand people are expected and will surround the intimate stage setting, where a few dozen citizens will sit with a candidate.  No candidate will interact with another candidate on stage; instead, they will respond directly to individual people who share their stories and question the candidates about how they will stand up for the common good.

“Many people who are coming to this event are still undecided on their candidate and are likely caucus goers here in Iowa,” says Hugh Espey, executive director, Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement.  “They are looking forward to a final opportunity to engage with these candidates in a real way.  I suspect the candidates will be in awe of the level of energy in the room at such a unique event with everyday Iowans from across the state and our neighbors across the Heartland.”

Like the dialogue held in Columbia, South Carolina in 2004, this year’s Heartland forum will begin with a rally and march to the venue.  See video from 2004: http://www.www.communitychange.org/iowa-heartland-forum/about/sc2004.html
