(This) Summer, Summer, Summertime….
GenChange is expanding! We are doubling our intern placements from 25 to 50, and taking the program West! Last year's host organizations were located in New York; Washington, DC; Maryland; Virginia; North Carolina; and Tennessee. This year, we are including most of last year's sites and moving west to Colorado and Washington! We are thrilled to be partnering with strong community organizations in those two states, like Washington Community Action Network (WA) and Rights for All People (CO).
Why Should I Do This?
- Unique opportunity to work in some of the nation's most powerful grassroots community organizations,
- Engage in intimate discussions and trainings with the country's leading progressive organizers, thinkers and trainers, and
- Become a part of a national network of social change professionals and activists!
That's Just Great, but I Need Details!
- Program is 10 weeks long (June 2nd through August 11th, 2008).
- Interns are paid by host organizations at a rate of $400 a week.
- Interns are required to begin the program on June 2, 2008 with a 5-day training in Nashville, TN, as well as attend the final graduation/training August 10-11, 2008 in Washington, DC. Transportation and lodging for both of these trainings will be provided by the Center for Community Change.
- From June through August 2008, interns will work full-time at their host community organizations and participate in bi-weekly discussions and professional training sessions with other interns.
Always Read the Fine Print:
- Housing will not be provided.
- A car will most likely be necessary.
- Preference will be given to applicants who live and/or work in the same states as the host organization (e.g. preference will be given to Virginia residents for placement at the Virginia Organizing Project).

I Know What You Did Last Summer...
Like what you're reading? Too good to be true? Let history speak for itself. Last year, GenChange successfully launched its internship program with 25 interns in four locations for a dynamic 10 week program starting with an intensive introduction to community organizing training in Nashville, TN and culminating with a celebratory graduation in Washington, DC! GenChangers worked on issues ranging from affordable housing to HIV prevention and awareness to immigration reform. Learn more.>>
Many graduating GenChangers have gone on to full time organizing positions or continue to organize on their campuses and in their communities. Active GenChange alumni, Catalina Nieto, was hired by her host organization, Tennessee Immigrant and Refugee Rights Coalition. Read her story here. >>
