Position Description: 

The Center for Community Change is hiring a Senior Organizer to assist the Immigration Team to advance the principles, base-building and legislative objectives of the Fair Immigration Reform Movement (FIRM) - www.fairimmigration.org, a project of the Center for Community Change.  The Organizer will work closely with the Immigration Team and other Center staff, and with organizers from grassroots partner organizations to implement local immigration reform efforts and a nation-wide campaign for reform.  When possible, the Organizer will be on hand to respond to immediate grassroots needs to help advance efforts to support immigrant rights organizing.  The Organizer will also assist in providing organizations and coalitions in selected states with limited organizational development technical assistance, if assistance is needed.  The ideal candidate is a self-starter; experienced organizer, good manager, and strategic thinker capable of producing consistent quality work in a fast-paced environment.

Principal Responsibilities: 

  • Work closely with team members and grassroots partners to develop and execute Center for Community Change/FIRM's campaign strategy for comprehensive immigration reform
  • Work with grassroots partners to coordinate and amplify local organizing strategies
  • Maintain and build relationships with grassroots organizations and leaders
  • Do outreach and provide technical assistance to grassroots partners in selected high-priority states and/or communities in order to strengthen the reach of the Fair Immigration Reform Movement
  • Help build grassroots leadership to strengthen and deepen the Fair Immigration Reform Movement
  • Coordinate local, regional and national events
  • Assist FIRM's Civic Participation Program, which requires strategy development and implementation and grassroots technical assistance
  • Supervise interns and staff as needed. 
  • Represent the Center in a professional manner within the organization and externally with community organizations and among community organizers.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of immigration and immigrant-related issues.
  • At least 4 years experience working with immigrant communities.
  • Excellent facilitator and facilitation skills.
  • Experience and comfort working as part of a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural team and knowing how to combine assets available to the team in a way that maximizes the ability of the team to function at a high level.
  • At least 4 years background in community organizing and experience with grassroots groups and organizing strategies.
  • Experience coordinating with national campaigns.
  • Experience working with youth development and organizing.
  • Coalition building skills.
  • Ability to learn issues quickly.
  • Ability to deal with different cultures.
  • Good written and oral communication skills are a must.
  • Ability to produce consistent, quality work in a fast-paced environment is essential.
  • Ability to speak Spanish and/or other languages is a plus. 

This position reports to: Immigration Team leader/Co-Director of FIRM.
