Principal Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate all CCC Health Care related work, design and implement a long-term strategy to increase the voice and impact of lower income communities in the health care debate.
  • Supervise junior staff assigned to the project and be the point of contact for consultant.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community-based organizations, organizing networks, national policy groups, and resource providers.
  • Help drive the health care project work plan in collaboration with our health care project partners.  
  • Liaison with policy makers and public policy experts to represent the interests of CCC constituent groups in the public debate on health care.
  • Participate as a core staff person in Center for Community Change coordinated campaigns that engage CCC's grassroots partners in work that incorporates community organizing, issues, voter work.
  • Work in partnership with the CCC Development Department to help market the health care work with funders and donors.
  • Attend Organizing Unit staff meetings and CCC staff meetings.
  • Participate in other organizational projects and teams as assigned by Deputy Director for Strategy.
  • Maintain an appropriate balance between the strategy of the health care team, the goals of the Organizing Unit, the Campaign for Community Values and the broader mission of the Center for Community Change.

Qualifications:

  • Broad strategic vision that encompasses base-building, coalition-building, public policy, communications, and collective action.
  • Prior issue campaign experience with health care issues at state or federal level and familiarity with health care organizations.
  • Minimum of five (5) years field experience in community organizing.
  • Strong commitment to building the political power of the poor, particularly people of color.
  • Familiarity with grassroots organizing and campaign methodologies.
  • Strong team-building, facilitation, and coalition-building skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience and comfort working in a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural environment.
  • Capacity and willingness to travel frequently.
