Small businesses want a real choice for health care

Posted by: Dennis Chin . Thursday, May 07, 2009

Small businesses are a key voice in the debate over health care reform, and Members of Congress are looking to them to see what they have to say about fixing health care. But DC lobby groups claiming to represent small businesses are trying to defeat any attempts at real reform.

It's no secret that small businesses have been getting the short end of the stick in the private insurance market - skyrocketing costs, no bargaining power, and routine (and legal) discrimination.

That is why our friends at the Main Street Alliance, a network of small business coalitions across the country, are building a new voice for small businesses on health care.  Turns out, small business owners want real health care reform that includes the choice of a public health insurance plan that would increase competition, drive down costs and provide a guarantee of quality coverage we can all count on (1).

And now, the Alliance is counting on thousands of small business owners to join the call for quality health care that includes the choice of a public health insurance plan.

We need health care that works for small business owners, employees, and our economy --- not just the private insurance companies that have had a monopoly on health care for too long.  The choice of a public health insurance plan will make sure the health of our workers come before the profits of these companies.

Are you a small business owner or self-employed?  If so, please join us and sign the petition.  If not, do you know someone who is?  E-mail this message and  help us collect thousands of signatures from small business owners who support the choice of a public health insurance plan to deliver to Members of Congress.
