Obama Declares Support for Immigration Reform This Year

Posted by: dennis . Thursday, Apr 09, 2009

The New York Times reports that President Obama is committed to comprehensive immigration reform. Now is the time to let President Obama that we are ready for reform too. How do you get involved? What can you do right now?

President Obama has displayed bold leadership by publicly declaring his support for immigration reform in 2009.  The New York Times reports that President Obama is seeking the help of immigrant advocates to build support for comprehensive immigration reform for when his proposal goes to Congress.

If this isn't a call to action, then I don't know what is.

Anti-immigrants across the country have already taken action to rally phone calls, faxes and e-mails to President Obama, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and House Majority Leader Nancy Pelosi to try and kill any hope of immigration reform.

We must fight back.

There are three actions you can do today to make immigration reform a reality in 2009:

1.  Take one minute to call President Obama and thank him for moving immigration reform in 2009.

- For English call: 866-584-3962
- For Spanish call: 866-583-2908

2.  Take 2 minutes to fax Senator Reid and Speaker Pelosi to tell them to stand strong with President Obama and pass immigration reform in 2009.

Immigration reform

Posted by Sujathajesudason at 09-Apr-2009
Obama's support of immigration reform brought tears to my eyes. My husband and I have lived under the constant, daily threat of deportation and separation even though I am a US citizen. Because he has a deportation order against him, we are not able to adjust his status. We have built a life together for these last 8 years with no confidence that we can stay together. Please advocate for a pathway to citizenship even for those who have deportation orders against them. They are not criminals, they just got caught crossing over. And let me know how I can help. We are ready to fight hard for this effort.
