Deepak Bhargava Interviewed for Documentary

Posted by: dennis . Monday, Mar 23, 2009

Deepak Bhargava, Executive Director of the Center for Community Change, was interviewed for the upcoming documentary named Heist. Check out what he had to say.

Deepak Bhargava will make an appearance in the documentary, Heist, as an expert on social movements and social inequality.  Heist traces the origins of today's economic crisis from the presidency of Ronald Reagon to the age of sub-prime mortgages.  Heist also employs the minds of other leading progressives to outline how America can rebuild its way to prosperity for all people living in the United States.

In the documentary, Deepak makes the case that systemic inequality is what fundamentally caused the economic crisis.  As Deepak has stated in the past, low-income people and communities of color were the "canaries in the coalmine" that signaled broader economic collapse for the rest of the nation.  The primary lesson to be learned from this crisis he states, is that we are all in this together.

Moreover, Deepak argues that the only way out of this economic crisis is "if ordinary people find their voice."  At this time in history, Deepak says that it is time for organized people to trump organized money and that is time now to demand for transformative policy change that will help everyday people living in the United States.
