Change Takes Courage

Posted by: March For America . Tuesday, Feb 16, 2010

On March 21, 2010, tens of thousands of people across the country will participate in the March for America demanding immigration reform for new American families and economic justice for all American families. Why now? How can you get involved?

Today we are at a pivotal moment in the history of this nation. We are faced with a choice. We can do nothing, and watch as new American families are torn apart by the broken immigration system; watch as profiteers continue to take advantage of people desperate for work; and watch as all American families struggle to find good jobs and make ends meet. Or we can stand up, and stand together for our families and our communities.

Join tens of thousands from across the country at the
March for America in Washington on March 21st.

It is up to us to make sure that campaign trail promises are turned into real policies that help lift all American families in 2010.

We're  tired of politics-as-usual in Washington, DC.  We're tired of the hate and fear that has permeated political debate in the past year.  And we're tired of the divisiveness that pits communities against communities.

That is why we are marching for immigration reform for new American families and economic justice for all American families.

Will you join us?

Conventional Wisdom Is Wrong:  Immigration Reform Is Possible In 2010

Immigration reform is a bipartisan problem that requires bipartisan leadership. It also represents a golden opportunity for the political parties to prove they can work together, build solutions and deliver for the American people. Unlike health care reform, immigration reform has traditionally garnered bipartisan support. Americans don’t want more delays, they want action. It is common sense. Immigration reform will help American families by increasing wages, decreasing the deficit and decreasing illegal immigration.

We Need More from Congress and the President to Fix the Economy for All Americans

The economy is a mess and families are hurting.  Persistently high unemployment rates continue to weigh down economic growth, continue to ravage lower- and middle-class Americans' earnings, and continue to incur long-lasting damage on our economy. Until the economy can get back on track with jobs creation, we need action to fill the gap. We need bold economic solutions that will put people back to work and give them skills they can use in industries that will grow when the economy turns around.

Done right, Comprehensive Immigration Reform Will Create A Stronger And Fairer Economy And Raise Wages For All Workers

Comprehensive immigration reform will create a level playing field for workers, employers and taxpayers who follow the rules. America will not be able to fully rebuild a strong, robust economy on top of a broken immigration system.  The current broken immigration system pits workers against one another, rewards unscrupulous employers, leaves billions in taxes uncollected, and leaves millions of hard-working immigrants and their families without a mechanism to legalize their status. Immigration reform will fix all these problems once and for all.

Immigrants have shown their commitment to this country by working hard and contributing even as they are denied full participation in our economy, culture and society. Immigration reform would require them to come out of the shadows and register, pay taxes, and start working toward becoming fully integrated Americans, while keeping their families together.

Immigration Reform For America’s Security

The broken system has spawned a thriving market for smugglers and has generated chaos on the border. We need a system for immigrant families to go through, not around. It will require undocumented immigrants to get right with the law, register with the government and go through government background security checks.

This Is About America

We all came on different ships, but we are now in the same boat. America’s identity and history as a nation of immigrants and people who believe in all Americans’ right to a decent job with honest pay is at the core of who we are. Our broken immigration system dishonors our values of inclusiveness, justice and equality. America gives people hope, a democratic voice, the opportunity to make a new life for their families, and a chance to build a real future through hard work, determination and entrepreneurial spirits.

Our values as a nation demand economic fairness for everyone and citizenship rights and obligations for all who work hard to sustain our country.  We must honor our families, protect American workers, and move this country forward together.  We also need our leaders to lead, and live up to their responsibility to steer this nation to a better, brighter tomorrow with opportunity for all who work hard and love America.

Join us on March 21 as We March For America.

You say "Comprehensive immigration reform will create a level playing field for workers, employers and taxpayers who follow the rules." How can you say this? Our current immigration laws, if enforced, would do this today. Many millions don't follow the rules today, and yet you are in favor of them. Doesn't make sense. If you legalize them, many millions more will follow, breaking the rules, realizing no matter whatb laws we make, we won't enforce them .Therefore we won't have a legal playing field for those who follow the rules. It will be a never ending cycle : break the rules, be forgiven, etc. You cannot have vaild statistics to back up your words because our politicians and bleeding hearts won't allow statistics to be taken on illegal immigrants. This is a good indication that the statistics would back up that illegal immigration harms the country. If the statistics would back up the thought that illegal immigration is good, then the pro-illegal immigrants would be hammering the gov't to do the stats!
